What's new?
Cellulase Assessment for Biomass Hydrolysis This report by Chief Executive Assistance concludes that cellulase enzyme suitable for cellulose hydrolysis is available, but the cost, $6/liter, is not economical for ethanol production. A a 5 to 10 fold reduction in cost or increase in specific activity is necessary for commercial ethanol production from cellulose.
Exploring the metabolic and genetic control of gene expression on a genomic scale This site reports the global genomic changes in induction patterns for Saccharomyces cerevisiae genes when cells undergo a transition from fermentative growth to aerobic respiration. The published version of this research appeared in the October 24 issue of Science (DeRisi et al. Vol. 278:680-686.
