Enzyme Companies with New Technologies

Maxygen attempts to improve the performance of enzymes and organisms through directed evolution. Starting from known sequences, they introduce mutations and recombine properties to adapt enzymes to novel environments and properties.

Diversa is discovering and cloning enzymes from extreme environments. Their approach is to clone whole genomes from either isolated organisms or DNA extracted directly from environmental samples, and use high throughput screening methodologies to identify properties of interest. They supply cloned enzymes in kits for initial trials and can scale up to larger quantities as needed.
